Touring to three venues across Shetland, the widely-acclaimed Scottish Chamber Orchestra Strings bring a highly virtuosic and entertaining programme of music that includes Tchaikovsky’s much-loved Serenade for Strings and Bartók’s Divertimento. Tchaikovsky’s Serenade is an enduringly popular work, elegantly weaving together Russian folk-song, with the classic waltz. Bartók’s dance-like Divertimento is a highly original work with attractive folk-like melodies, and ingenious, witty dialogue between a small group of soloists and the full ensemble. The Austrian-born violinist Alexander Janiczek partners with SCO Leader Benjamin Marquise Gilmore for a compelling account of Bach’s Double Concerto in D minor.
The programme also includes a morning 'Big Ears, Little Ears' concert for our younger audiences.
Big Ears, Little Ears is a series of informal concerts for babies and toddlers and their parents and carers, providing an opportunity for little ones and grown ups to share high quality live music in a child-friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
