Sat 15 Oct 2022, 7.00pm - 8.00pm

This event is a part of our dance season, running from 11 October – 6 November featuring a mixture of workshops and performances, for a range of ages and abilities.

"We watched a film last night. And we can’t get it out of our heads".

A couple wakes up in a filmic dream world. There, they re-create last night’s film and, in the process, work through the subtle power dynamics of their own relationship. Through this strange exploration, the man and woman question Hollywood norms and see each other anew. Loosely inspired by Hitchcock’s Vertigo, Ferguson and Barton is a show about communication and miscommunication, about voyeurism, gender roles, and sensuality. Can we ever really know the person closest to us? Would we want to?

A pleasing, teasing commentary about the seeming reality of what’s on screen and what is actually real.” — Mary Brennan, The Herald

The week leading up to the performance of Ferguson and Barton, co-creators Lucy & Jim will work with the youth company in both dance and theatre to explore the themes and techniques they used to create the show. Using a film of the young people's choosing as inspiration, together they will make a short performance that will be presented as a curtain raiser on Saturday 15 October. This piece runs alongside a programme of activity that SHOTPUT dance theatre are delivering at Shetland Arts including: a youth arts intensive, an adult ballet class and a post-film discussion in the café bar. Hitchcock’s VERTIGO will be screened at Mareel on Thursday 13th October.
