This event is a part of our dance season, running from 11 October – 6 November featuring a mixture of workshops and performances, for a range of ages and abilities.
Slanjayvah Danza are commonly known for crossing the borders of traditional and contemporary dance, music and storytelling. The company are touring their signature work, 6 Feet, 3 Shoes to Shetland as part of their Scottish tour. They are performing across Shetland during this week and will be bringing their popular music workshop to Mareel.
Join the company artists for an exciting workshop where you can learn and play some of the rhythms used in the show. Some of these are rhythms from Scotland and others are from Spain - sometimes we even mix them up for extra fun!
We use our hands, our body, our voices and our feet to create the beats for the company musicians who play along on fiddle, percussion and guitar. The dancers will be there to help everyone learn the rhythms, with easy patterns for everyone to enjoy. We will encourage and help you to create your own short pattern to play and dance with to the music.
Suitable for adults and young people aged 14+ (Please get in touch if you are younger, however feel that you would want to participate in this workshop).
