A warm-hearted and charmingly offbeat documentary about a group of modern knights competing to represent New Zealand in the brutal sport of medieval combat.
Our initiation into this weird and wonderful world comes through the enthusiastic but self-confessedly out of shape rookie, Nick Waiariki. His quest for glory takes him from Rotorua to Taranaki, where he is set to try out for the number one-ranked Kiwi team, the Steel Thorns. Will Nick have what it takes to make it in this highly competitive sport?
Before the screening on Sunday 1 September, Vikingr Hjaltlandi, Shetland’s own Full Contact Medieval Combat club, will be demonstrating their skills outside Mareel.
“Starts out as a love letter to small town New Zealand and develops into a delightful, uplifting ode to working as a team and achieving one’s goals.” - Flicks NZ
